GOMBAK: Police shot a suspected kidnapper dead in Kampung Baru Kundang, Rawang and freed an Indonesian man believed to have been kidnapped in Cheras.

The suspect had 26 prior cases on his record, say police.

Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said police are tracking two more men, believed to be in the same gang as the deceased suspect.

"We managed to rescue the Indonesian man who was previously kidnapped in Kuala Lumpur. Investigations showed that the suspect, who was shot, was working with two other men," he said on Thursday (Sept 26).

Comm Hussein said the two other men were also believed to be responsible for a break-in case.

"We are currently tracking down both suspects," he added.

It was reported that a suspect with over two dozen police records was shot dead as he attempted to attack policemen in Kampung Baru Kundang, Rawang.

He had reversed his vehicle into vehicles belonging to the police and a civilian.

Comm Hussein said a task force from the Petaling Jaya district police headquarters was tracking down a suspect at 1.15am on Wednesday (Sept 25), responsible for breaking into a shop in Damansara earlier.

"The police team stumbled upon the suspect in a Multi-Purpose Vehicle (MPV) at Kampung Baru Kundang. The suspect was told to stop his vehicle but refused to do so and instead reversed his vehicle fast into a police car and a car parked nearby, endangering the police personnel," he said.

This forced the police to open fire in self-defence, causing the suspect's vehicle to swerve to the side of the road.

"The suspect was hit and died at the scene. He is in his late 30s with 26 prior criminal records, including 10 records for break-ins," Comm Hussein said.

The suspect was also previously held under the Prevention of Crime Act (Poca).

"We seized several items from the suspect's vehicle, including three machetes, a cutter, an axe, and a steel rod. We are investigating the matter under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder," he added.
