Get a permit before you go hiking in Cameron Highlands

IPOH: The Gunung Irau hiking trail, the highest point in Cameron Highlands, is still off limits to visitors due to incidents of uprooted trees, says the Forestry Department.

Cameron Highlands district forestry officer Arifhadi Johari Affandi said the trail is temporarily closed due to rain with strong winds.

“Due to this, there have been cases of fallen trees at the location. As this is the highest point, and due to the location of the mountain, there have been more incidents of fallen trees along the trail.

“We have opened most of the other hiking trails, approximately about 30 of them, which are deemed safe for recreational activities for now,” he said when contacted yesterday.

“Get a permit from the department first before going hiking or carrying out any recreational activities. The application can be done online,” he added.

Arifhadi, however, advised visitors to be cautious when hiking at the approved trails. He said the weather can get bad during the approaching monsoon season.

Visitors or hikers should come back down if it starts to rain.
