KLUANG: Do not fall for those seeking to divide people and cause disharmony, says Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.
At a Mahkota by-election ceramah here, he said that Johor was well known for the unity among its people and this spirit should be continued.
“However, we cannot be too comfortable because the opposition likes to divide the people. Do not let them break the unity among the rakyat in Johor. Do not give into their incitement," said Amirudin at a ceramah at Flat Haji Manan here on Wednesday (Sept 25) night.
“That is the difference between us and Perikatan Nasional - we are in the government so we have the responsibility to perform our task for the rakyat,” he added.
Amirudin said that while some may view the Sept 28 Mahkota by-election as a small matter but in reality, it is part of a bigger agenda of making the people’s lives better and improving the nation.
Another ceramah speaker, Kluang MP Wong Shu Qi reminded Mahkota voters to vote for a quality candidate to represent them.
"When asked by reporters about his plans to solve flood issues in Kampung Bentong in Mahkota, the opposition candidate suggested for the river to be widened and deepened.
“Does he not know that both methods had been done and there is no more space for the river to be widened and deepened further," said Wong.
She said that flood mitigation has been done and added that what has been proposed is to build a retention pond.
“This is why we have to choose a quality candidate who understands local issues and has the right ideas to solve them,” she said.
Wong hoped the voters would vote for Barisan candidate Syed Hussien Syed Abdullah so that he could be part of her team, together with Mengkibol assemblyman Chew Chong Sin, to work for a better Kluang.
Barisan’s Syed Hussien, 40, is in a straight contest with Perikatan Nasional candidate Mohamad Haizan Jaafar, 61.
Mahkota will go to the polls this Saturday (Sept 28) to elect an assemblyman after its incumbent Datuk Sharifah Azizah Syed Zain passed away last month.
It is a state seat under the Kluang parliamentary constituency, with a total of 66,318 registered voters.
