KOTA KINABALU: A cannabis delivery service came to an end with the arrest of a man in Tawau, who was found in possession of 9.98g of the drug when caught.
Tawau OCPD Asst Comm Jasmin Hussin said that the cannabis was discovered during a body search of the local man following a raid in the Megah 2 industrial area on Monday (Sept 23).
During interrogation, the suspect admitted to hiding additional cannabis at his home in Bandar Sri Indah, ACP Jasmin said.
"Acting on the suspect's information, police conducted a raid at hs residence at around 1.40pm the same day.
“Police seized cannabis weighing 3,322.72g, valued at RM10,380, from the man,” he told reporters on Friday (Sept 27).
Jasmin noted that further investigations revealed the suspect had been actively distributing drugs for the past year in the area, personally delivering the drugs to customers.
He also said that the suspect is believed to have sourced the cannabis from Kota Kinabalu before selling it to users in the area via phone orders.
“Urine screening results indicated that the suspect tested positive for the drug tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and has two previous offences under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
“The suspect is currently remanded for seven days while the case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
"Police are also working to identify the syndicate network for further investigation,” he said.
If found guilty, the suspect faces the death penalty, or life imprisonment, or if not sentenced to death, a minimum of 15 strokes of the cane.
According to Jasmin, this arrest and seizure mark the first recorded case of cannabis-related drugs by the Tawau police this year.
“We want to stress that distributing, possessing, or abusing drugs is a criminal offence in this country.
“The police welcome cooperation and information from the public to help combat these activities,” he added.
