Mahkota polls: Allegations against BN candidate not personal, says Azmin

KLUANG: The claims made against Barisan Nasional candidate Syed Hussien Syed Abdullah’s apparent arrest were not personal attacks, says Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali.

The Bersatu supreme council member said his party colleague Badrul Hisham Shaharin, otherwise known as Chegubard, had revealed the apparent arrest based on a police report that was obtained.

“It is not an allegation as it was based on a police report of the incident.

“It is not a personal attack. We will let the authorities verify the matter,” he said after a ceramah in Taman Sri Kluang here on Thursday (Sept 27 night.

Azmin, who is also Perikatan’s director for the Mahkota by-election, was referring to claims made by Badrul Hisham earlier that Syed Hussien had previously been arrested.

Despite Kluang OCPD Asst Comm Bahrin Mohd Noh’s clarification earlier saying that Syed Hussien has no criminal record, Badrul had doubled down on his claims and also revealed the identity of the policeman who made the apparent arrest.

Earlier on Thursday, Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi reportedly said the incident happened when Syed Hussien was in his 20s, when he defended a blind person from being harassed and assaulted by a group of people.

Syed Hussien, 40, is in a straight fight against Perikatan candidate Mohamad Haizan Jaafar, 61, in the Mahkota by-election, with polling day set for Saturday (Sept 28).
