TNB cable bridge partially collapses in Bayan Lepas; structure being reinforced

GEORGE TOWN: A Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) cable bridge partially collapsed when it failed to support the weight of a 275kV cable.

Penang infrastructure, transport and digital committee chairman Zairil Khir Johari shared details of the incident that occurred in Bayan Lepas on Thursday (Sept 26).

"The cable bridge collapsed because the structure could not bear the weight of the 275kV cable. TNB took immediate action to pull out the cable," he explained.

The collapse happened at the cable bridge No. 1 near Motorola, part of a project leading to Intel, said Zairil when contacted on Friday (Sept 27).

Zairil noted that TNB has since reinforced the cable bridge by adding more piling in the middle to increase its strength.

“They immediately pulled out the cable, dismantled the cable bridge structure and added piling to increase its strength," he said.

TNB had also informed Intel about the situation, said Zairil, adding that the project is expected to commence at the end of Nov.
