PADANG BESAR: The Perlis Botanical Garden has the potential to become a new tourist attraction in the state, but intensified efforts are needed to maximise its benefits in line with Visit Perlis Year 2024-2025 and Visit Malaysia Year 2026.
Perlis Mentri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli (pic) said the garden was established as a conservation hub for rare and endangered plant species, aimed at preserving their benefits and facilitating ongoing research for future generations.
“I’m confident this garden can become a centre for scientific research, conservation and education in botanical and agricultural development. This will also open doors for related sectors to expand,” he said in his speech at the official opening of the botanical garden in Beseri here yesterday.
Mohd Shukri also encouraged the Malaysia Fossil and Mineral Gemstone Club, a strategic partner of Perlis Geopark, to seize this opportunity to further develop the botanical garden.
Meanwhile, Hisham said the botanical garden covers an area of approximately two hectares and features rare plant species such as beruas, muyu, jambu kian and 10 varieties of jambu trees, along with curry and chestnut trees.
“We are also planning to introduce a petting zoo and a campsite for course participants or visitors interested in herbal plants,” he told Bernama.
The botanical garden will open to the public starting today from 2pm to midnight, with entrance fees between RM7 and RM8. Tour guides will also be available to assist visitors.
