Handful of deviant cults in Perak under close watch, says Saarani

IPOH: There are only a few deviant cults in Perak and their activities are being closely monitored, says Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad (pic).

The Perak Mentri Besar said the state is aware about their existence and are not publicly disclosing them because they are being watched closely by the authorities, including the Perak State Islamic Religious Department (JAIPk).

"There are only a few... less than 10, in several locations and districts.

"We do not want them to flee or go into hiding, which is why we are handling things in secrecy," he said in a press conference after opening the 61st Federal Islamic Call Perak chapter annual general meeting here on Saturday (Sept 28).

"Their teachings are being studied by JAIPk, and if found to deviate from the teachings of Ahli Sunnah Wal Jamaah, reports will be lodged.

"Actions will then be taken as according to the law," he added.
