Making way for Le Tour de Langkawi


Various roads along interstate bicycle race route to be closed in stages

KUALA LUMPUR: The Petronas Le Tour De Langkawi 2024 will take place from tomorrow to Oct 6, with roads along the race route to be closed in stages for the cyclists.

The race will kick off in Langkawi and continue on to Penang on Monday.

A total of 22 teams will compete in the 2 ProSeries race, covering a total distance of 1,190km.

In Seberang Prai Utara, police chief Asst Comm Anuar Abdul Rahman said several roads would be closed and diverted on Monday, including routes from Merdeka Bridge, Jalan Bumbun Lima, Jalan Kedah, Jalan Titi Mukim, Jalan Teluk Air Tawar, Jalan Bagan Ajam, Jalan Kampung Gajah and Jalan Bagan Luar, before ending at Dataran Pemuda Butterworth.

Jalan Bagan Luar will be closed from 1pm to 3pm, and tent installations will require further closures starting tomorrow at 8pm.

On Tuesday, Stages 3 and 4 will cover Cameron Highlands, Raub and Bentong in Pahang.

Pahang police chief Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman confirmed road closures starting from 12.30pm on Tuesday.

The affected roads include Jalan Simpang Pulai, Jalan Kg Raja, Jalan Kuala Terla, Jalan Tringkap, Jalan Brinchang and Jalan Tanah Rata, with a detour via Tapah suggested.

Those heading to Gua Musang should take Ringlet, Sungai Koyan, Bandar Lipis and Merapoh.

For Stage 4, which will end in Bentong on Wednesday, Yahaya said road closures will begin at 12.45pm.

Affected routes include Jalan Bukit Fraser, Jalan Teranum, roads within Raub town, Jalan Pintu Padang, Jalan Ulu Gali, Jalan Sungai Ruan, Jalan Sungai Klau, Jalan RTP Klau, Kampung Lebu, Jalan Lurah Bilut-Bentong, Jalan Bentong-Raub and Dataran Bentong.

Road users from Bentong, Kuantan and the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Highway can travel to Raub via the Central Spine Road Highway.

Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said Stages 4 and 5, taking place on Wednesday and Thursday, will affect roads in Hulu Selangor, Ampang and Kajang, with staged closures and diversions.

He added that Stage 4 will start at Dataran Pekan Hulu Selangor and end in Bentong at noon on Wednesday.

The race route will cover Jalan Dato Muda Jaafar, Jalan Rasathurai, Jalan Mat Kilau, Jalan Merdeka, Jalan Syed Mansor, Jalan KL/Tg Malim, Jalan Ampang Pechah, Jalan Kuala Kubu/Fraser Hill and Sungai Selangor Dam.

Hussein said the race’s fifth stage will begin at 11am on Thursday at KLCC.

It will cover the route involving Jalan Ampang, Jalan Taman Putra, Jalan Hulu Langat, Jalan Bukit Ampang Menara Tinjau, Jalan Sungai Tekali, Jalan Bukit Hantu, Jalan Sungai Lalang, Jalan Semenyih, Jalan Tasik Kesuma and Jalan Beranang.

Stages 6 and 7 will see the race move from Kuala Lumpur to Melaka and then from Batu Pahat to Kulai (Stage 6) before going to Sarawak. — Bernama
