MRSM Terendak in Melaka labelled ‘most dilapidated’ by Mara chairman

MELAKA: Maktab Rendah Sains Mara (MRSM) at Terendak Camp in Sungai Udang here has been classified as the most dilapidated educational institution under the purview of Mara, says Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki (pic).

The Mara chairman said the MRSM Terendak has various amenity issues, including the condition of toilets and teachers' rooms, which can be described as "very terrible".

"I can tell all of you that MRSM Terendak Camp is the worst compared to 39 out of 57 MRSM that I have visited.

"Such conditions shouldn't exist in an educational institution that has a population of 663 students, and I have instructed the principal to compile a list of dilapidated facilities within a month and we have approved an RM400,000 emergency fund for the remedial measures," he said after the opening of the TVET Expo by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi at the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC) in Ayer Keroh here on Friday (Sept 27).

Asyraf Wajdi had earlier visited MRSM Terendak Camp following an incident where 48 students suffered food poisoning.

The affected students are from Form One and Form Two, with eight students rushed to the hospital for treatment on Thursday (Sept 26) night.

The students have since returned to their dormitories after treatments.

Asyraf Wajdi revealed that inspections by Health Department officers found that the kitchen at MRSM Terendak was extremely dirty with rat droppings discovered at the site.
