Man killed after car plunges into 30m-deep ravine in Sabah


KOTA KINABALU: A man was killed while three others were injured in separate accidents around the city, late Saturday (Sept 28).

In the first mishap close to the city, a man was killed after he was pinned in a wrecked four-wheel-drive vehicle while another sustained injuries after being thrown out of the car that fell into a ravine.

State Fire and Rescue Department officials said the vehicle had plunged into a 30m deep ravine at the Bukit Kopungit Vantage Point along Jalan Bukit Perwira near here, at about 10pm.

They later identified the deceased as Bianus Asai and the injured man as Genol Lopidi, 62.

Officials said they received an emergency call at 10.17pm and sent a team to respond, where the pinned victim had to be extricated and the thrown out victim, retrieved using a stretcher and ropes.

Bianus was declared dead at the scene while Genol was rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment.

In another mishap, two people were hurt after they crashed into a signboard post along Jalan Lintas at around 11.30pm.

One of the victims has been identified as Nuraisa Salleh, 28, while details of the other person were not retrieved by firemen.

Both injured victims were sent to the hospital for treatment.
