Floods: Number of evacuees in Kedah drops to 1,332


ALOR SETAR: The number of flood evacuees in Kedah has dropped to 1,332 people from 426 families as of 8pm Monday (Sept 30), compared to 1,384 people from 444 families earlier in the evening.

According to the Social Welfare Department’s Info Bencana report, all evacuees from the Pokok Sena, Kota Setar, and Kubang Pasu districts are housed at 10 relief centres.

The Pokok Sena district has the highest number of evacuees, with 707 people from 224 families sheltering at Surau Desa KEDA Derang, Maahad Tarbiyah Islamiyah Derang, Dewan Serbaguna Pokok Sena, SK Bukit Hijau Mukim Derang, and Masjid Kampung Baru Jalan Lampam.

In Kota Setar, 416 evacuees from 130 families are accommodated at three centres, namely SK Titi Gajah, SMK Kepala Batas, and SMK Alor Merah.

Meanwhile, in Kubang Pasu, 209 evacuees from 72 families are placed at Dewan Lubuk Batu and SK Bandar Baru Darul Aman.

The Drainage and Irrigation Department's (DID) Public Infobanjir website reported that as of 8pm, the waters of Sungai Padang Terap in Kepala Batas, Sungai Anak Bukit at Taman Aman in Kota Setar, and Sungai Titi Kerbau in Kubur Panjang, Pendang, have exceeded danger levels. – Bernama
