A YOUNG woman in Ipoh was hospitalised after being stung by wasps, merely months after her elder sister died from a similar attack, Malaysia Nanban reported.

The daily said S. Kirthika, 22, a university student, died in February after getting stung at her flat in Taman Harmoni.

Her father S. Sathiakumar said people living in Blok 16 of the flat, which is managed by the Ipoh City Council, had complained of the wasp problems for some time.

He said council workers had cut down a nearby tree suspected of harbouring the wasps after the first incident, but the problem persisted.

Sathiakumar said residents also had to deal with the foul smell caused by bird droppings from birds nesting on the roof of the four-storey flats.

The residents lodged complaints over the matter with the council some two weeks ago.

A few days ago, his younger daughter Sharumathi was rushed to hospital after getting stung by wasps.

Ipoh city council member Lawrence Palanisamy told the daily that the matter had been brought to the council’s attention and follow-up action will be carried out.
