Man loses over RM240,000 in fake investment scheme

MUAR: A 29-year-old man was duped of RM242,223 in a fake share investment scheme.

OCPD Asst Comm Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz said that the victim got to know about the scheme from a person whom he befriended via WhatsApp in May.

“They promised good returns of 10 to 100% of the capital and to trade the victim was asked to download an application to track his investments,” he said.

ACP Raiz Mukhliz added that the victim believed that it was a genuine scheme as he was able to make good returns within three days.

This prompted the victim to carry out 28 transactions to four different accounts totalling RM242,223 between Aug 1 and Sept 19.

“However the victim is still unable to withdraw his returns. The victim felt cheated and lodged a report after they kept on asking for more investments,”ACP Raiz Mukhliz said, adding that police have classified the case as cheating.
