Sex toys worth RM1.3mil destroyed in ministry operation

SEREMBAN: Over 27,000 sex toys, valued at approximately RM1.3mil, were destroyed during a Home Ministry exercise here.

According to Nik Yusaimi Yussof, secretary of the ministry's enforcement and control division, the products—totalling around 5.8 tonnes—were confiscated during operations in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, and Penang earlier this year.

“The ministry obtained a court approval to destroy the products under Section 19(1) of the Printing Presses and Publications Act 1984,” he said. “It is illegal to import, distribute, sell, or even purchase or possess such items, as they are deemed harmful to societal morals and contradict our socio-cultural values.”

Most of the items were manufactured in China, priced between RM50 and RM800, although some were believed to have originated from Thailand.

The ministry’s decision to publicise the disposal of these banned products is part of an effort to raise public awareness of the legal offences associated with sex toys.

Speaking at a disposal centre near Seremban, Nik Yusaimi noted that the availability of these products in local markets, including on e-commerce and social media platforms, has caused discomfort among the public.

“We will not tolerate such activities, as they pose a threat to the well-being of the local community,” he said, adding that the ministry will continue to take stringent action against those involved.
