Fatwa committee to brief Selangor Sultan on GISB decision

SHAH ALAM Selangor's Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah will be briefed on the decision reached by the State Fatwa Committee regarding GISB Holdings Sdn Bhd (GISBH).

"The decision (regarding GISB) was finalised during yesterday's (Oct 1) meeting and we will seek an audience with the Sultan of Selangor tomorrow (Oct 3) before it is gazetted," said State Islamic Affairs and Cultural Innovation Committee chairman Dr Mohammad Fahmi Ngah.

On Monday (Sept 30), the Selangor Mufti Department convened to make a decision on GISB while the Selangor Islamic Religious Council (MAIS) also reviewed a report on GISB presented by the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) on Sept 24.

On Sept 21, Sultan Sharafuddin expressed his disappointment with the issues surrounding GISB and its network, which were linked to criminal activities and currently under police investigation.

His Royal Highness also decreed that all charity homes Islamic schools, including syariah offences, under the control of GISB and its network which are not registered or suspected of involvement in criminal activities must be immediately shut down and barred from operating within Selangor.

This measure is aimed at protecting children from further mistreatment. – Bernama
