JOHOR BARU: The Johor Islamic Religious Council (MAINJ) has established a special committee to rehabilitate the faith of Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings (GISB) followers, says Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi.
The Johor Mentri Besar added that MAINJ, through a meeting recently, has agreed to set up the purification of the GISB followers special committee.
“This committee will play a role in drafting works to restore the faith of those involved with GISB in the state.
“Besides that, this establishment also aims to coordinate school education, placement and assistance that can be channeled to the children of GISB followers,” he said in a statement here on Wednesday (Oct 2).
Onn Hafiz added that the state government takes the allegations against GISB seriously and would take strict action against any party who committed crimes against children and practices that contradict Islamic teaching.
He said to uphold the sanctity of Islam and the people’s welfare and security, the state government, through MAINJ, was working closely with the police to take continuous action against the GISB movement here.
“A joint operation under Ops Global was carried out between the police, Johor Islamic Religious Department (JAINJ) and the state Welfare Department on Sept 20 and Sept 21 involving eight premises from 43 GISB-owned premises in Johor Baru, Kluang, Segamat, Kota Tinggi and Mersing.
“Following the operation, a total of 29 individuals were detained and 30 children and teenagers rescued,” he said, adding that authorities found over 20 books and pamphlets pertaining to "Aurah Muhammadiah".
Onn Hafiz also said that the children and teenagers that were rescued have been placed under the Welfare Department for about a month.
He added that MAINJ has allocated about RM20,000 to the Welfare Department for clothes for the children and teenagers as well as educational books.
“For the 29 individuals that have been detained, eight of them have been rearrested for allegedly possessing books pertaining to Aurah Muhammadiyah.
“Possessing or keeping pamphlets that have been gazetted as illegal is against the country’s law,” he said.
Onn Hafiz added MAINJ would continue to use existing enactments and always cooperate with the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim), which is a Islamic religious agency at the federal level, to examine and study before making any decision related to GISB's status.
