KL cops to destroy RM36mil worth of seized drugs

KUALA LUMPUR: RM36.43mil worth of drugs seized over 20 years will be disposed of by city police.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said the drugs were connected to 2,844 investigation papers (IPs) from 2003 until last year.

"Methamphetamine accounts for the bulk of the seized drugs, worth RM34.43mil. It is followed by MDMA (RM1.05mil), cannabis (RM433,000) and heroin (RM308,000).

"Other items seized include chemicals used to produce drugs – 786 litres of liquids and 1.9kg of solid materials," he told a press conference at KL police headquarters on Wednesday (Oct 2).

Comm Rusdi said the drugs were evidence in cases that have been concluded in court, after which permission was granted for the disposal.

"We are using the services of a Cenviro Kualiti Alam Sdn Bhd subsidiary to dispose of the drugs in an incinerator at the company's facility in Bukit Pelandok, Negri Sembilan," he said.

He added that the facility would also prevent pollution from the disposal process.

The drugs being disposed of could have been supplied to 1.2 million drug users, Comm Rusdi said.

"We are committed to curbing drug trafficking and abuse in the city," he added while urging the public to continue helping police fight the drug menace.

"Those with information can contact the KL police hotline at 03-21159999 or the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department hotline at 012-2087222," he said.
