Sabah couple ordered to enter defence over maid's murder


KOTA KINABALU: A couple charged with murdering their maid three years ago has been ordered to enter their defence by the High Court here.

Justice Datuk Dr Lim Hock Leng fixed Oct 21 to 25 for the trial of Mohammad Ambree Yunos @ Unos, 40, and Etiqah Siti Noorashikeen Mohd Sulong after hearing submissions and clarification from the prosecution and the defence.

The husband and wife were jointly charged with murdering Nur Afiyah Daeng Damin, 28, a Malaysian, between Dec 8 and 11, 2021 in a third-floor condominium unit in Penampang.

Ambree, a contractor and former airline employee, and Etiqah, an engineer with an oil company, are charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

If convicted, they could face the death penalty, or a prison sentence of up to 40 years with at least 12 strokes of the cane.

The case was brought to court on Dec 29, 2021.

On April 26, 2022, Etiqah, a former MasterChef Malaysia 2012 finalist, represented by Datuk Seri Rakhbir Singh, successfully appealed against a High Court decision denying her bail.

The Court of Appeal then granted her RM30,000 bail with one local surety.

On Oct 20 that year, Ambree, represented by Ram Singh, was allowed RM30,000 bail with an additional RM10,000 and two local sureties by the High Court here.
