KUALA LUMPUR:Twenty-four individuals, consisting of Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings (GISB) top leadership, including its chief executive officer, his wife and children are expected to be held for further investigation.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said all 24 individuals were rearrested on the expiry of their remand recently.
"They were rearrested under Section Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants (Atipsom) 2007.
"We expect to extend their remand once it expires. They have not been held under Security Offences (Special Measures) Sosma 2012," he said when contacted on Thursday (Oct 3).
So far, 93 individuals detained in Ops Global are still being remanded while 34 others have been held under Sosma, the IGP said.
On allegations that children rescued in Ops Global were not allowed to return to their families by the Welfare Department, Razarudin said under Section 25(2) of the Child Act 2001, the Welfare Department has the jurisdiction to place the children under its care when there are reports of neglect or abuse by the parents or legal guardians.
"The children will be placed under temporary custody (by the Welfare Department) until a thorough investigation is conducted and a decision on the investigation is made by the Attorney-General's Chambers.
"Under Ops Global, the parents of the rescued children are also suspects in ongoing police investigations," he said.
