KOTA KINABALU: Over the years, there have been incidents involving people posing nude at the wrong places, with those involved ending up being punished by the courts.
A woman has been filmed naked in front of a popular signboard at a bank in Sabah.
The spot has become a favourite for photographers for the view it provides.
The latest episode involves a 10-second video clip of a woman posing nude in front of the signboard at Jalan Gaya here, which surfaced online on Tuesday.
Kota Kinabalu police chief Asst Comm Kasim Muda said they have yet to receive a report over the matter but said they were looking into it.
“Yes, we will investigate,” he said when contacted yesterday.
Prior to the incident, the bank signboard was already known for its aesthetics, drawing in tourists seeking photo opportunities.
The signboard first became popular among Chinese tourists in August and went viral after they posted pictures of themselves in front of it on China-based social media platform Xiaohongshu, also known as the “Chinese Instagram”.
Since then, the signboard has somewhat taken a life of its own, with Malaysians, including prominent figures, taking time to snap photographs with it.
Those interviewed said that they found the signboard attractive due to its bright yellow colour and its location at an intersection.
In June 2015, a group of tourists was blamed for a magnitude 5.9 earthquake after stripping on Mount Kinabalu, which is considered to be a sacred site.
Canadian siblings Lindsey Peterson, 23, and his 22-year-old sister Danielle, 22-year-old Eleanor Grace Hawkins of England, and 23-year-old Dylan Thomas Snel of the Netherlands pleaded guilty to indecent exposure at KM8 along the trail up the mountain in Ranau around 6.45am that day.
The Sessions Court sentenced the four foreigners to three days’ jail and a fine of RM5,000.
They were also ordered to be deported after they admitted to stripping on the mountain on May 30, 2015.
Judge Dean Wayne Daly handed down the sentence after the four admitted to the public nuisance charge framed under Section 294 (a) of the Penal Code.
In November 2023, a couple was sent to jail for six months by the Magistrate’s Court over charges of nudity at a toll plaza’s surau near Yong Peng, Johor.
Both Lok Kah Hui, 25, and Yap Win Yin, 26, pleaded guilty to the charges.
Lok, who works as a durian orchard keeper, and Yap, a pet food shop worker, were accused of stripping each other at a men’s prayer hall, near the Yong Peng toll plaza at 8.15am, on Nov 8, 2023.
