A MAN from Penang, who once faced unimaginable hardship and only had RM2.50 in his pocket, is now giving free nasi kandar to the needy, reported Utusan Malaysia.

Mohamad Fadzil Abdul Wahad, 44, and his cousin, Che Hajirah Bee Abdul Hamid, 46, are the founders of the Moving Nasi Kandar project that aims to help those in need.

“I had a tough life back then. I used to work at a factory and only had RM2.50 in my pocket.

“At that point I wished I could eat chicken, but I did not have enough money.

“After starting my own business, I want to give back to society by giving out free nasi kandar, especially to those in the B40 income group,” he said.

According to Mohamad Fadzil, his family members help to cook and distribute the nasi kandar in areas which they announce in advance on social media platform TikTok.

“From Monday until Friday, my cousin and other family members will help with cooking and distributing the nasi kandar.

“We usually prepare about 500 packs,” he said.

During the weekend, he is focusing on his retail business in Batu Kawan, Mohamad Fadzil said.

“The Moving Nasi Kandar project is a sign of our gratitutde to Allah for what He has given to us,” he said.

He said that his family had distributed more than 50,000 packs of nasi kandar so far.

“I am happy that our family’s initiative to give back to society has received a warm welcome from the public,” he added.
