Cop claims trial to extorting RM500 from woman in Nilai

SEREMBAN: A 36-year-old policeman has claimed trial at a Magistrate's court here to a charge of extorting RM500 from a woman.

L/Kpl Ahmad Muaz Md Subri pleaded not guilty after the charge was read to him before Magistrate Nurul Saqinah Rosli on Friday (Oct 4).

He was charged with committing the offence at the car park of a block of flats in Nilai at around 9.30pm on Oct 17 last year.

The accused had allegedly threatened the victim with arrest if she did not pay.

He was charged under Section 384 of the Penal Code for extortion, which carries a jail term of up to 10 years, or a fine, or whipping, or any two of these punishments upon conviction.

DPP Norshafatihah Nor Azmi then asked the court to fix bail at RM8,000 with one surety pending next mention.

Counsel for the accused, Noor Azizi Abdull Aziz from the Legal Aid Department, asked for lower bail as the accused had to provide for his wife and six children.

Nurul Saqinah then fixed bail at RM3,000 and set Oct 22 for next mention.
