Fallen tree killed man felling trees


KOTA KINABALU: A man was killed when a tree collapsed on him while he was chopping down trees in his orchard in the Ranau district, some 100km from here.

Yambun Godsung, 67, succumbed to serious injuries during the incident on Friday (Oct 4) at Kampung Tawaras.

Ranau Fire and Rescue station chief Ridwan Mohd Taib said they were alerted to the incident at 1.16pm and immediately deployed a team to the area which is located some 32km from the fire station in town.

“The report we received was that a tree fell on the man as he was cutting down trees in the orchard,” he said in an interview.

"A medical officer from the Health Ministry present at the location later confirmed that the victim had died at the scene,” he added.

Ridwan said the man’s remains had been handed over to the police.
