THE Johor Tamil Schools Governor Board Council has called for the Perak model of allocating land for vernacular schools to be adopted in the southern state, Malaysia Nanban reported.

The council recently held its first official annual general meeting after its registration was approved by the Registrar of Societies.

Council chairman C. Muniandy said the council, with the cooperation of the Governor Boards, would work to make Tamil schools financially secure.

One way would be for the state government to allocate plantation land to Tamil schools, he said, as done by the Perak government.

The land could be managed by a special committee and the revenue from the land used for Tamil schools and students, he said.

> Superstar Rajinikanth’s fans who were eagerly awaiting the release of his latest film, Vettaiyan, were shocked to receive news of his sudden hospitalisation, Makkal Osai reported.

The actor had apparently suffered severe chest and stomach pains and was admitted to a hospital in Chennai on Sept 30.

Doctors found that he had a swollen aorta, which could have been fatal if it hadn’t been detected and if it had ruptured.

The beloved actor was reportedly in stable condition and would return home soon, according to a statement by the hospital.
