Bank officer on trial for obscene WhatsApp messages


IPOH: A bank officer has pleaded not guilty to two counts of insulting the modesty of a female bank employee by sending her obscene WhatsApp messages three years ago.

Rosman Jamaluddin, 52, claimed trial to the charges before magistrate S. Punitha here yesterday.

According to the charge sheet, the accused had sent the messages to Kok Wai Ling, 38, with the intention of insulting her modesty.

The act was allegedly done at 67, Jalan Perajurit, Ipoh Garden East at 10.52pm on May 20, 2021.

For the second charge, the accused had on Aug 18, 2021, sent similar obscene messages to Kok at 12.08am from the same location.

The charges were framed under Section 509 of the Penal Code for insulting modesty, which carries a sentence of up to five years in jail, a fine, or both upon conviction.

Deputy public prosecutor Nurul Hidayu Zakaria prosecuted while the accused was represented by lawyer Khairilazwar Khalil.Nurul Hidayu offered RM5,000 bail and requested that the accused not disturb and stay away from the victim.

Khairilazwar requested lower bail as his client is married with four children, is looking after his sick mother, and has high blood pressure and slipped disc problems.

Punitha granted bail at RM2,500 with an additional condition that the accused not disturb the victim.

She also fixed Nov 25 for next mention.
