Man killed while chopping down trees in his orchard


KOTA KINABALU: A senior citizen was killed when a tree fell on him while he was cutting down trees in his orchard in Ranau district, some 100km from here.

Yambun Godsung, 67, succumbed to his injuries in the incident at Kampung Tawaras yesterday.

Ranau Fire and Rescue station chief Ridwan Mohd Taib said they were alerted to the incident at 1.16pm, and a team was deployed to the area.

“The report we received was that a tree fell on the victim while he was chopping down trees in the orchard.

“A medical officer from the Health Ministry present at the location confirmed the victim had died at the scene,” Ridwan said when contacted.

He said the man’s remains have been handed over to the police for the next course of action.
