Bersatu leader wins presidency uncontested in party polls

PETALING JAYA: Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has retained his Bersatu president post, while the party’s secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin will fill the position of deputy president after they won uncontested for the party’s two highest positions in the election for the 2024/2027 term.

The matter was announced by the deputy chairman of the Bersatu Party Election Committee (JPP), Saiful Adli Arshad.

“The official declaration of the victory of these two sole candidates will only be made after the completion of the Divisional Conference on Nov 2,” he told a media conference yesterday.

He also said Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin and Datuk Nolee Ashilin Mohammed Radzi won unopposed the positions of Srikandi chief and deputy chief respectively.

He also confirmed that incumbent Srikandi chief Datuk Seri Rina Mohd Harun had submitted a nomination form, but later submitted a withdrawal form.

Saiful Adli said that for the position of three vice-presidents, six candidates are eligible to run, including the incumbent deputy president Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu, A’ziss Zainal Abidin, Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee, Datuk Dr Mohd Radzi Md Jidin, Datuk Razali Idris and Mohd Rafiq Abdullah, Bernama reported.He said that for the position of Armada chief, Gombak Setia assemblyman Muhammad Hilman Idham will square off against incumbent Armada permanent chairman Akmal Zahin Zainal Zahir, who is also the Perikatan Nasional Youth Election director.

Saiful Adli said his party received 276 nomination forms on Sept 21 for the election at the national level for positions in the Majlis Pimpinan Tertinggi (MPT), Srikandi Committee, Armada Committee, Srikandi Muda Committee and Bersatu Associate Wing Committee.

Meanwhile, Ahmad Faizal said that for the positions of president, deputy president and vice-president, MPT has decided that only members who have held the position of MPT member or division head for a full term are allowed to contest.

“Similarly for the post of MPT, candidates have to be a party member for two years.

“All the candidates have also gone through a screening process that was carried out in accordance with the party constitution and also the country’s laws by the Party Election Committee, which was established under Clause 14.9 of the Bersatu Constitution to implement, manage and supervise this election,” he said.

He said the division-level Bersatu wing conference will take place on Oct 12 and 26, before concluding with the Bersatu Divisional Conference on Nov 2.

Ahmad Faizal added that the conference at all divisional levels this year will involve the agenda of the election of Divisional Committees, Divisional Wing Committees, MPT members as well as wings at the national level.
