KOTA KINABALU: Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) and Sabah STAR will strengthen cooperation and enhance Gabungan Rakyat Sabah’s (GRS) presence across the state in preparation for the state election, says Datuk Joniston Bangkuai (pic).
The GRS information chief said this was the main focus at the recent PBS-STAR Joint Leadership Council (JLC) meeting.
The JLC was formed after the two parties entered a collaboration agreement.
“As the second largest component of GRS, PBS will be at the forefront to secure a convincing victory for the coalition in the next state election,” Bangkuai said in a statement yesterday.
He urged the public not to be swayed by “political propaganda”, adding that GRS’s growing strength had led to false and baseless claims aimed at undermining the coalition.
“GRS remains united under the leadership of its chairman Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, who regularly meets with component party leaders to address both state matters and party issues, reflecting strong cohesion within the coalition,” he said.
Bangkuai was responding to a viral report speculating that PBS and Sabah STAR were planning to collaborate with opposition party Warisan for the state election.
He dismissed the rumours as malicious attempts to sow discord.“What was reported is nothing more than speculation from irresponsible parties seeking to disrupt GRS unity,” he said.
Bangkuai added that both Sabah STAR president Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan and PBS acting president Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam had publicly reaffirmed their commitment to GRS.
“Their statements should stop the rumours, which are clearly designed to create discord within GRS,” he added.
