JOHOR BARU: The presentation of a proposal paper involving the future of the 572 children and teenagers rescued from charity homes operated by Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings (GISB) that should have been presented this week to the Cabinet has been postponed, says Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri (pic).
The Women, Family and Community Development Minister said the postponement follows new information obtained about the children rescued through Ops Global.
“I should have presented it, but it has been postponed following an update, and the process has yet to be completed.
“Right now, there are still many children who need to go through certain processes, including the identification process involving the National Registration Department.
“This is because there are some who are 20 years old but claim to be 16,” she told reporters after launching an early education conference held at a hotel here yesterday.
Nancy said she was hopeful that all the processes would be completed soon so that she can present the proposal paper to the Cabinet next week.
Previously, Nancy was reported to have said that the ministry would bring a proposal paper to the Cabinet this week to be discussed with several other ministries regarding future plans involving the 572 children and teenagers rescued from GISB.
She said among them would be their future, education and safety.
The Welfare Department has opened 11 safe houses so far to place the 572 victims.
In early September, the police launched Ops Global, conducting raids on charity homes connected to GISB across Peninsular Malaysia.
During these operations, 572 victims were successfully rescued.
