KOTA KINABALU: Discussions are ongoing to establish the optimal political partnership strategy for the upcoming 17th Sabah state election, says Rafizi Ramli.

The PKR deputy president stated that cooperation between partner parties is being discussed at both the state and national levels.

"I believe the state election in Sabah can serve as an early benchmark for the next General Election," he said during the launch of the Sabah PKR state leadership committee (MPN) office in Inanam on Thursday (Oct 5).

He expressed confidence in the collective efforts of the federal unity government and the unity government in Sabah, aiming to present the best options for Sabah residents in the upcoming election.

Barisan Nasional chairman and Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi recently commented that the collaboration between Sabah Barisan and Pakatan Harapan is the best strategy for both the unity government and the state.

Ahmad Zahid noted that this decision was mutually agreed upon by the party at both state and national levels and mentioned that Umno is open to alliances with other political parties in Sabah for the state polls.

Sabah Barisan-Umno chief Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin supported this, stating that the state Barisan is refining its political cooperation with Pakatan for the upcoming election. Discussions with the state Barisan committee are planned to ensure electoral success by September next year.

Chief Minister and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) chairman Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor has also emphasized the need for GRS to form an electoral pact with national parties for the upcoming state elections.

Rafizi highlighted that while discussions continue, it is crucial that PKR remains committed to protecting and serving the people.

"Whatever form the partnership takes, it must not hinder PKR's capability to assist the population," he said.

State PKR chief and Deputy Higher Education Minister Datuk Mustapha Sakmud also attended the launch of the Sabah PKR MPN office.
