ACTRESS Scha Alyahya shared her thoughts on the ongoing issue of Malaysians undervaluing local talent until it gains international recognition, reported Utusan Malaysia.
The 42-year-old said Malaysia has always had world-class artistes, but the local community often fails to acknowledge their quality.
“That’s the way our culture works. When outsiders acknowledge and elevate the talent of our local artistes, only then do we begin to offer our support.
“To me, who else is going to support local talent if not us?
“It is very difficult to get Malaysians to appreciate local talent, even though we have many outstanding individuals,” she said.
Scha, who is also a TV host, singled out Malaysian-British actor Henry Golding’s rise to Hollywood fame as an example of how local talents are often overlooked.
“Just look at Henry Golding and how he succeeded abroad. Before that, when he was in Malaysia, people didn’t seem to acknowledge his talent,” she said.
