DAP does not seek unity government in Johor, respects 2022 state polls result, says Anthony Loke

JOHOR BARU: DAP accepts the outcome of the March 2022 Johor state election which saw Barisan Nasional win 40 out of 56 state seats, says Anthony Loke.

In this context, the DAP secretary-general said the party did not seek any positions in the Johor government, nor has it raised the issue of forming a unity government in the state.

"Lately, there has been a polemic suggesting that Pakatan Harapan is proposing a unity government in Johor, which Umno and Barisan have also responded to.

"I want to make it clear. DAP has never proposed the formation of a unity government in Johor.

"In fact, I have told Liew Chin Tong (incumbent Johor DAP chairman) that there is no need to discuss or raise the matter, as we have accepted the fact that the current state government was formed prior to the previous general election," he said.

Loke said this during a press conference after officiating the Johor DAP convention and election on Sunday (Oct 6).

He added that DAP does not wish to disrupt the stability of the current state government or complicate matters.

"The unity government at the federal level was formed based on the results of the 15th general election, where no single party or coalition won more than half the seats in Parliament. This was not the case in Johor.

"The outcome of the Johor state election was very clear. Barisan Nasional won 40 seats, Pakatan only secured 13, including one from Muda, while Perikatan Nasional won three seats.

"This led to the formation of the current state government, which was established before the 15th general election in November of the same year," he said.

The Johor state executive council is made up of 10 Barisan Nasional assemblymen, with seven from Umno, two from MCA, and one from MIC.
