Kluang cops rescue family and newborn as village floods


Kluang police personnel rescued three family members including a newborn baby boy at Kampung Parit Jepun in Simpang Renggam here in Johor on Sunday (Oct 6).

SIMPANG RENGGAM: Police have successfully rescued a family, including a three-week-old baby boy, after floodwaters entered their house in Kampung Parit Jepun here.

Kluang OCPD Asst Comm Bahrin Mohd Noh said police received information about a family stranded in their house and immediately sent a rescue team at around 2.45pm on Sunday (Oct 6).

"We rescued a 22-year-old woman, her baby son and a 59-year-old woman from the house and sent them to the flood relief centre at SK Seri Kencana in Kampung Muhamad Amin," he said.

Meanwhile, the Johor disaster management committee said the number of affected flood victims has risen to 116 as of 4pm, up from 52 at 2pm.

"The affected victims are from Taman Suria, Taman Rekamas and Kampung Seri Tengah Renggam," it said, adding that the temporary relief centres are located at SK Dato Jaafar and SK Seri Kencana.

A heavy downpour on Sunday morning caused the flash floods.

The committee also added that the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) forecast good weather throughout Johor on Sunday evening.

It also said water levels at Sungai Paloh, Sungai Mengkibol, Sungai Kahang, Machap Dam and Sungai Benut in Simpang Renggam are normal.
