More than RM1bil allocated for flood relief projects

SUNGAI BULOH: An allocation of RM481mil has been approved for the Sungai Damansara Flood Mitigation Project to reduce the risk of flooding in this parliamentary constituency.

Sungai Buloh MP Datuk Seri R. Ramanan said the tender for the project has been closed and an offer letter would be issued to the successful contractor.

“No prime minister has ever approved a project of this magnitude for Sungai Buloh. I am very grateful to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim,” he told reporters after presenting education aid to students yesterday, Bernama reported.

Ramanan, who is Deputy Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister, said another project – phase two of the Sungai Buloh Flood Mitigation Project costing about RM780mil – was also being planned to reduce flooding in the constituency.

The project is still at the proposal stage, he added.

Commenting on flash floods in the constituency, Ramanan said the situation is under control.

“I thank members of the first response team for giving priority to helping the victims, especially people with disabilities, the elderly, single mothers and families with many children, even though their own homes were affected by the floods,” he said.

Ramanan said he would be distributing aid to flood victims in several affected areas in collaboration with the Malaysian Cooperative Commission.
