Decision to redeploy 134 teachers shelved temporarily, says Fadhlina

KAJANG: The decision to redeploy 134 Chinese school teachers in Pasir Gudang, Johor to other schools has been temporarily shelved until all the issues that came with the decision are sorted, says Fadhlina Sidek.

The Education Minister said once the problems raised have been resolved and the 2024/2025 academic year ends, the teachers will be transferred in phases.

"The redeployment needs to take into account many important aspects; it cannot disrupt the learning process of the children," she told reporters after launching the Tekad Reformasi Pendidikan programme today (Oct 7).

Fadhlina said that upon a deep dive into the issue, they noticed many factors were not taken into account when the transfer order was released.

The teachers, she added, will be allowed to appeal if they do not agree to the transfer.

Last week, it was reported that 134 Chinese school teachers from Pasir Gudang were given redeployment orders, with up to 34 teachers being ordered to move from just one school alone.

Parents had taken to social media to complain about this sudden transfer, which was due to take place just before the Academic Session Final Test (UASA).

On Thursday (Oct 3), Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh said they have requested the Johor State Education Department to address this matter.
