Johor Immigration Dept arrests 30 in illegal worker raid at Taman Century restaurant


JOHOR BARU: The Johor Immigration Department has arrested 29 foreigners and a local employer in two raids conducted during an operation referred to as Ops Selera.

Johor Immigration Director Datuk Mohd Rusdi Mohd Darus stated that the arrests occurred between 9.30am and 10.30am on Sunday (Oct 6) in Taman Century and Kampung Melayu Majidee.

He explained that the operation followed public complaints regarding foreigners allegedly working illegally in restaurants.

Officers raided two premises and checked 62 individuals, both foreigners and locals.

During one of the raids, two female suspects attempted to flee but were unsuccessful.

Those arrested, aged between 25 and 54, include 22 women and six men from Indonesia and Myanmar.

A local woman, who owns one of the restaurants, was also detained.

The case is being investigated under Sections 6(1)(c) and 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for overstaying and entering the country without valid travel documents.

It is also under investigation for violating social visit pass requirements under Rule 11(7)(a) of the Immigration Regulations 1963.

Additionally, the local woman faces investigation under Section 56(1)(d) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for harbouring illegal immigrants.
