KANGAR: The World Cleanup Day 2024 programme saw a remarkable turnout with 108,456 volunteers participating nationwide. This exceeded the initial goal of 40,000 volunteers.

The Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Corporation (SWCorp) announced that volunteers, including representatives from 461 agencies, cleaned 1,280 locations, collecting a total of 7,882 tonnes of waste and 49,968 cigarette butts.

“Themed ‘We Clean the World’, this year’s programme featured various activities, including clean-up initiatives, waste audits, and the World Cleanup Day Ride with the Raja Muda of Perlis (Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail).

“Competitions covering various categories, including best agency, most volunteer participation and highest waste collection, were also organised, offering a total prize of RM27,000,” said SWCorp.

The statement was released in conjunction with the launch of the national-level World Cleanup Day 2024 programme, which was officiated by Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra at Dataran Kurong Tengar, Kuala Perlis near here, Bernama reported.

Also present were Perlis Mentri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli and Housing and Local Government Ministry secretary-general Datuk M Noor Azman Taib.
