Nearly 18,000 Seberang Prai consumers still without water

GEORGE TOWN: Water supply has yet to resume for some 15% of users in Seberang Prai affected by the water disruption that began on Friday (Oct 4).

Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP) CEO Datuk K. Pathmanathan said efforts were ongoing to restore supply to the 17,700 users in South and Central Seberang Prai still without water.

"As of (now), water supply service has been restored to approximately 100,300 users (or 85%), with efforts ongoing to restore supply to the remaining users," he said in a statement on Monday (Oct 7).

"Concerning this, PBAPP staff have been assigned to handle specific issues in each affected neighbourhood.

"Our team is also expediting the 'de-airing' work on pipelines in various locations in South and Central Seberang Prai to fully restore water supply as quickly as possible," he said.

The affected areas still awaiting the restoration of supply include industrial areas, residential areas with high-rise buildings, Taman Sungai Bakap, Taman Tasek Jawi, Taman Jawi Indah, Taman Tambun Indah, Taman Belatuk, Orchard Ville Golf Resort and Tasek Junjong.

The disruption occurred after a pipe burst on the main pipeline of the Sungai Dua Water Treatment Plant (WTP) along Jalan Bukit Panchor.

Repair work was completed at 10am on Saturday (Oct 5).
