Negri Sembilan finds GISB teachings deviant, similar to Al-Arqam’s


SEREMBAN: The Negri Sembilan Fatwa Committee has found that the teachings and beliefs of GISB Holdings Sdn Bhd were similar to those of Al-Arqam which was declared deviant in 2016.

State Mufti Prof Datuk Dr Mohd Faudzinaim Badarudin said however, the state committee, which last met on Sept 28 has not decided if it would issue a new fatwa on the matter.

"This is because the fatwa on the teachings of Al Arqam gazetted in 2016 was still relevant and can be enforced against the GISB teachings.

"The state fatwa committee will make a final decision on this when it meets this month," he said.

The Perlis, Selangor and Pahang fatwa committees have since declared the beliefs and teachings of GISB as deviant and unIslamic.

Last month, the police rescued 572 children and teenagers from charity homes linked to GISB for alleged exploitation, child abuse and religious manipulation.

The children have since been placed in 11 safe houses by the Welfare Department.

Since the operation began, more than 300 individuals, including the top management of GISB, have been arrested.
