PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has been ranked as the 15th most influential Muslim figure in the world, according to the 2025 edition of "The World's 500 Most Influential Muslims" published by the Jordan-based Royal Islamic Strategic Studies Centre (RISSC).
The publication describes the Prime Minister as someone who has endured imprisonment, exile and political challenges before returning to become Malaysia’s 10th Prime Minister in November 2022.
“Beyond his political career, Anwar has made contributions to academia, holding positions at institutions such as St. Anthony’s College, Oxford, Johns Hopkins University and Georgetown University.
“He is also a co-founder of the International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT) established
in the United States in 1981,” said the publication.
The publication also ranked Anwar ninth in the “rulers and politicians” category.
“(Anwar) Ibrahim has been a vocal supporter of the Palestinian right to resist occupation,” said the publication.
Topping the list is Jordan's King Abdullah ll, followed by Yemeni scholar Sheikh Al-Habib Umar Hafiz, Qatar's Emir Tamim Hamad Al-Thani, and Iran’s Grand Ayatollah Hajj Sayyid Ali Khamenei
