Body of victim who fell into the sea found after two-day search in Johor


BATU PAHAT: An Indonesian national drowned after falling into the ocean at Jeti Parit Botak, Senggarang, here.

Rengit Fire and Rescue Department operation commander Mohd Khairul Ngatman said the incident occurred on Sunday (Oct 6) at 2pm.

“The victim, in his 30s, was reportedly working at the jetty when he fell into the sea.

“The body was found on Tuesday (Oct 8) at midnight near Parit Jabar,” he said in a statement on Tuesday.

Mohd Khairul added that the search and rescue were conducted for two days and were divided into three sectors.

“The first sector was along the riverbanks that stretch about 2km from where he was reported missing.

“The second sector involved search operations by the police, while the third sector involved the Johor Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA),” he said.

He added that the operation on Monday (Oct 7) ended at 6pm due to safety concerns. The public later found the body.

Meanwhile, Batu Pahat OCPD Supt Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani said the police had received a report regarding the incident.

“The case is being investigated as a sudden death report. There were no signs of foul play or criminal signs in the incident,” he said, adding that the postmortem report is being finalised.
