SINGER Ernie Zakri was moved to tears when fans bought digital board advertisements in Bukit Bintang to campaign for her in the 36th edition of the Anugerah Bintang Popular Berita Harian.
According to Berita Harian, Ernie, 32, was nominated for the Popular Female Singer and Most Popular Song categories in the upcoming award ceremony.
Ernie, whose full name is Nur Ernie Shahirah Zakri, said the giant billboards featuring her was a surprise.
“I couldn’t believe it and had to reconfirm with my team if it was really true.
“I did not ask my fans to put in so much effort, but they really wanted to do it,” she said, adding that she appreciates their effort.
Ernie was also touched that her fans were campaigning for her and distributing roses to the people. She said their sincerity has motivated her to become a better singer.
> The daily also reported that some motorcycle riders in Kangar, Perlis, were found using licence plates smaller than a five sen coin to avoid detection by authorities.
These were among the offences discovered by police during their operation on Sunday.
Kangar OCPD Asst Comm Yusharifuddin Mohd Yusop said the operation was carried out every weekend and so far, 441 riders and pillion riders had been detained.
“A total of 350 motorcycles were also seized for various offences, including not displaying licence plates, illegal motorcycle modifications and using fake licence plates,” he said.
“Most of the fines issued involved penalties between RM300 and RM2,000.”
He also urged families to monitor their children as some parents were allowing their underage children, as young as 13 years old, to ride motorcycles without a licence.
