Lawyer pleads not guilty to voluntarily causing hurt in Magistrate's Court

IPOH: A lawyer was charged in a magistrate’s court here for voluntarily causing hurt to a 35-year-old woman.

Goh Suan Poi,72, pleaded not guilty and claimed trial before Magistrate Evangelin Simon Silvaraj here on Tuesday (Oct 8).

According to the charge sheet, Goh had voluntarily caused hurt to Ashvinder Kaur at a parking area of Aeon Kinta City on Feb 18 at about 6.46pm.

She was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code which provides imprisonment for up to a year or a maximum fine of RM2,000, or both, if found guilty.

The case was prosecuted by DPP Monisha Pandey, and Khairilazwar Khalil represented the accused.

Monisha requested a RM1,000 bail.

Khairilazwar said his client was a former teacher from 1976 to 1997.

She later became a lawyer and is still a practising lawyer now.

“I know her personally, and she will attend court. She has been cooperating with the police.

“I request the court not to impose any bail amount,” he added.

Evangelin fixed bail at RM500 with one surety and set Nov 11 as the next mention date.
