Nowhere to hide for officers in medical visa syndicate, says Immigration DG

KUALA LUMPUR: The Immigration Department will not compromise in taking action against any rogue officers, including the ones allegedly involved in a medical visa syndicate to bring migrants into the country.

Its director-general Datuk Zakaria Shaaban said in matters of integrity, the department would not compromise in taking action against any officers if wrongdoing was proven to have been committed.

"Stern action will be taken regardless of rank or post.

"We are committed to ensuring no violation of integrity is committed, in line with the department's main focus to improve governance, discipline and integrity so that our image and reputation can be elevated in the eyes of society," he said in a statement on Tuesday (Oct 8).

He was commenting on a recent report in an online portal, alleging the Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission (EAIC) was investigating several Immigration officers for their involvement in a medical visa syndicate.

The news report claimed that the department's visa syndicate was raided last week and documents were seized.

Zakaria said the department would leave it to the EAIC to investigate the alleged involvement of some of its officers in a medical visa syndicate.

He confirmed that the EAIC has come to the department headquarters to conduct the investigation over the alleged integrity infringement.

"We will leave it to EAIC to investigate further and we will give full cooperation in a transparent and just manner," he said.

He also urged the public to report any wrongdoing of Immigration officers via phone at

03-8801246 or email at aduanintegriti@imi.gov.my or come to the department integrity division at its headquarters.
