Ramli pledges to protect Orang Asli rights after Umno supreme council appointment

KUALA LUMPUR: Cameron Highlands MP Datuk Dr Ramli Mohd Nor has pledged to continue to do his best for the nation, including the Orang Asli community following his appointment to the Umno supreme council.

Ramli, who became the first Orang Asli to be appointed to the council, said his appointment also showed that Umno has always been committed to fight for the rights of the indigenous communities.

"This appointment is historical as I have become the first indigenous person to be appointed to the Umno supreme council.

"This proves that Umno has always been committed to fighting for the voices and rights of the indigenous communities," he said in a Facebook post.

Ramli, who is also Dewan Rakyat deputy speaker, expressed hope that the indigenous communities would continue to support Umno.

He expressed his gratitude to party president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Pahang Umno chief Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail for the appointment.

"Insya Allah, I will carry out this task and mandate given to me to the best of my ability," he added.

Yesterday (Oct 7), Umno secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said Ramli was sworn in as a member of the Umno supreme council during a meeting.

"This evening marks a historic moment as he (Ramli) becomes the first Orang Asli to be a member of the Umno supreme council, reflecting the party’s commitment to advocating for the rights of all Malaysians, including the Orang Asli," he said.

Asyraf said the party will continue to fight for the rights of the Orang Asli community and provide them with opportunities to jointly drive the nation's progress within the political landscape.
