Down safely: Rescuers bringing the Taiwanese climber down from Mount Kinabalu.

KOTA KINABALU: Seven mountain search and rescue rangers brought a Taiwanese climber down from Mount Kinabalu after he twisted his ankle at KM8.4 of the summit trail.

Ranau fire station chief Ridwan Mohd Taib said the 44-year-old was on his way down the summit when he slipped and twisted his left ankle at around 6am on Sunday.

Ridwan said the man could not continue with the hike and had to ask for help to get down.

“The man was given medical attention at the scene before he was placed on a stretcher and carried down by the rangers,” Ridwan said.

He said they managed to reach the Timpohon gate (starting point) before 3pm.

Medical officials on standby brought the man to a hospital via ambulance for further treatment.
