Facebook users were appalled at the task being done in unsanitary conditions, with some pointing out it violated food safety regulations. Some also tagged authorities in their comments.

The shop appeared to have closed early by Monday evening, with a note pasted on its shutters.

In the note, the eatery said it would close for review until further notice.

"It is our weekly SOP to clean our freezer and... our staff reporting channel (states) that the freezer must be cleaned and bad items thrown away.

"Unfortunately, the staff decided not to throw the bad meat away, (and) instead defrost by washing them to be fed to the stray dogs later in the day," read the note.

"Washing near the drain is a no-no, (but) our worker did it, not thinking much because (it was) bad meat. We have terminated all kitchen staff with immediate effect," read the note.

"We apologise again for our supervisory shortcomings. We are fully aware that washing near the drain is definitely not acceptable.

"We hope this clarifies the situation and we kindly ask for your understanding.

"We will continue to uphold and maintain our hygiene standards at all times," it read.
