Anwar named 15th most influential Muslim

PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has been ranked as the 15th most influential Muslim figure in the world, according to a publication by the Jordan-based Royal Islamic Strategic Studies Centre.

In its 2025 edition of “The World’s 500 Most Influential Muslims”, Anwar was described as someone who had endured imprisonment, exile and political challenges before returning to become Malaysia’s 10th Prime Minister in November 2022.

“Beyond his political career, Anwar has made contributions to academia, holding positions at institutions such as St Anthony’s College, Oxford, Johns Hopkins University and Georgetown University.

“He is also a co-founder of the International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT) established in the United States in 1981,” said the publication, which also ranked Anwar ninth in the “rulers and politicians” category.

“(Anwar) has been a vocal supporter of the Palestinian right to resist occupation,” it added.
