KUALA LUMPUR: Police are set to record statements from several Form Five students at a boarding school here to aid in the investigation of a bullying case, Malay language daily Sinar Harian reports.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said that three investigation papers had been opened under Section 323 of the Penal Code following the receipt of 12 police reports.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the victims were students aged 14 to 16 years old, while the bullies were 17-year-old students.
"Two investigation papers have been referred to the Deputy Public Prosecutor and returned for updates. Another is still incomplete as the student involved is currently sitting for trial SPM (Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia) exams.
"The school requested to delay the process to allow the student to complete the exams," he was quoted by Sinar Harian as saying during the handover of duties ceremony for the Cheras OCPD at the Cheras district police headquarters on Wednesday (Oct 9).
Comm Rusdi noted that statements from the five to six students (perpetrators) are expected to be recorded on Oct 13 and 14.
Police have also taken a statement from a school hostel warden suspected of involvement in the case.
"Reports indicate that some victims suffered ear injuries and bruises to their hands and feet. No weapons were used; the perpetrators used only their hands and feet.
"Nonetheless, the police take bullying cases seriously and cannot allow them to continue unchecked. Many incidents have occurred, and some students have been charged in court, even if only hands and feet were involved, as it can still cause injury," he stated.
Previously, it was reported that Tam, the lead singer of the rock band Spider, whose real name is Rustam Mustafah, had claimed his 14-year-old son was a bullying victim.
Alongside Tam, several other parents, including actor Khir Rahman, had also come forward to disclose similar occurrences and urged the school to take action against the bullies involved.
